The photo on the left popped up on my Timehop today. Three years ago I was so utterly lost and miserable. I totally believed that my anorexia had beaten me. My BPD was out of control again and I was left suicidal and trapped. I thought that recovery was impossible and truly believe life would be better for everyone if I was dead. It took another seven months and a few more kilos lost before I was able to give recovery a shot. And then another two + years to get to where I am now. Basically all I’m saying is it was a journey and there was a long time when I wasn’t ready to try to get better. It’s difficult to imagine that it made sense to live like I was on the left instead of trying to reach where I am now. But eating disorders rob you of hope. But I’m here today believing in hope. I know recovery is possible. I also know recovery is really really hard and overwhelming. But now I know that as shit as it all was it was worth it. #recovery #happyandhealthy #screwthescale #transformation #recoverywarrior #mentalhealth

I get asked HOW I recovered a lot. And here’s the thing, I didn’t do any thing by special. I threw myself into something (which felt a lot like the pits of hell) and blindly tried to crawl back out again. I consistently increased my calories. I consistently cried multiple tones a day. I didn’t exercise and I didn’t purge. And for the longest time that was it. I didn’t know what to do, I just knew what I had been doing wasn’t going to ever allow me to live any sort of life, so I did the opposite (apart from the crying but.. but I cried way more during the first year of recovery). And the thing is while the actions aren’t special they are remarkable because going against disordered impulses is HUGE. So huge. It feels impossible which is a large part of why it’s easier to stay sick. And I think that’s the difference that I only understand now. Many of the actions of recovery are super simple and many of the great changes happen BECAUSE of those actions not because of anything special. (Less disordered thoughts, the emergence of self love etc all happen slowly as your brain function comes back.) But that doesn’t make recovery any less remarkable, difficult or traumatic. #transformationtuesday #eatingdisorderrecovery #recovery #mentalhealth #screwthescale #fitnessjourney #edwarrior #curlyhair #mypower #mixedrace #happyandhealthy #fitmum

¡Mira a Holly hoy!
